Winter is a great time to educate yourself on boating safety and/or navigation.  We have 2 fantastic course offering being taught at the Scioto Boat Club in February & March.


Americas Boating Class (ABC3)
This 3 session 10 hour classroom oriented ABC3 program of instruction in boating safety teaches elementary seamanship, small boat handling, rules of the road and much more.  A "must" course for novices and beginners of all ages; NASBLA-approved course for certification of all powerboat operators born after January 1, 1982.  Class is designed for all types of boaters - power, sail, large and small, new and experienced boaters.  $40 fee covers all needed classroom materials PLUS the supplemental charting and plotting course materials; all instruction is free.  Class dates and times are Saturdays Feb 25, March 3 & March 10 from 8am-noon.
 
Supplemental Charting & Plotting Course
This 4 hour course will walk you through the essentials of laying out and measuring a safe course through hands-on activities.  Students taking the boating skills course are automatically enrolled and all fess/materials are included.  Non-ABC3 students can take this course for a $40 fee. Class date and time is March 17 from 8am-noon.

The Scioto Boat Club is situated on 3 Acres on the West bank of the Scioto River adjacent to the Indian Village Camp at the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio. Our Club was organized in the 1930s by a group of local boating enthusiasts dedicated to better and safer boating. We remain committed to our founding principles and the preservation of the Scioto River as one of the finest inland resources in Ohio.  

Griggs Reservoir is widely known as the best water for sports in Ohio. The SBC is a member-driven club that provides a fun, clean, family atmosphere, coupled with the camaraderie of boating, skiing, wake boarding, fishing, and rowing.  There are several dinners and boating trips each year so you get to know all our members and their families. We strive to provide our members with an affordable place to boat, fish, and play at water sports without having to travel far away from Columbus and its surrounding cities and suburbs.

 

Amenities Include: 67 Floating Aluminum Boat Docks,  Launching Ramp, 10 Ton Motorized Hoist with Ramp, 5 Room 8,000 sq ft Clubhouse, 2 Level Deck overlooking the River,  Picnic Tables, Grills, Sand Volleyball Court, 12-24 Rowing Shell Storage and 95 trailer & Boat Storage spaces.
